After many months of “unusual”, it is great to see our office team smiling and back together.

Our people are the heartbeat of our business and we are very proud of each one of them for keeping level-headed through these difficult times. The dedication, commitment, and drive these people have shown to ensure we continue to move forward has been nothing short of outstanding.

Our field management is now planning to visit all engineers on-site to see how they are and to have a good old-fashioned catch-up. We are sure there will be a few socially distanced breakfasts, brews, and butties consumed over the coming weeks.

We shall continue to invest in our people ensuring they have the skills and the tools to be the best they can, but sometimes there are things that can’t be taught and these guys have it in abundance.

Pushing Forward Post COVID

Its been a tough few months with some hard times not only in our industry but worldwide with obvious effects on people’s physical and mental health as well as the impact financially on people and their employers. There is a saying that ‘a storm clears the air’ and that is how we will approach the coming weeks and months as we push on with our ambitions and we come out of the lockdown restrictions. We will adapt our business to take on the world head-on. Looking through some photos that were taken not too long ago, these ones capture the personalities of the people in it. We really are a team and we couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with.

Working from home – Covid 19

These are testing times indeed and we never expected to be making the kind of decisions we have had to this week.

Although we are all trying our best to work as normal as possible and deliver great service anyone who says ‘business as usual’ isn’t being honest.

We all have a responsibility to make sure our businesses and the economy are still here after Covid 19 has been controlled. But we think we have a bigger responsibility to those at risk from this disease, the older generation, and the vulnerable.

This afternoon we will be closing the offices until Covid 19 is under control to try and do our bit to control the spread.

The Directors and the management team will be operating from home, still delivering work and covering our 24hr emergency calls with as many engineers as we can.

Estimator Required

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced building fabric estimator with energy, high standards, and a flexible approach.
Ideal applicants will need a good knowledge of all aspects of building and the experience of working in commercial and retail environments.
We expect this role to be mainly office based here at our offices although there will be times where travel will be required to occasionally visit sites and attend meetings with clients.
Our expectation is for this individual to be used to working in a fast-paced environment producing a high number of relatively small value quotes to our various clients. These will have to be done in various formats as per the client’s expectations as well on our own bespoke system.
Another key part of this role will be following up on the prices submitted using our powerful reporting system and building relationships with our clients by obtaining feedback and developing trends.
The successful Estimator will have:


• Proven experience of working in a Building Maintenance environment across multiple trades with experience of commercial/retail contracts.

• Technical building knowledge of working methods, practices, procedures, processes, regulations, and legislation.

• Knowledge of the materials and methods used in the construction and building maintenance industry.

• As well as the estimator’s ability we also consider the personality to be just as important. We are looking for people to join our expanding organisation that will share our vision for the business as well as their own personal development.

• Must hold a full clean driving license.

• Job Type: Full-time.

Due to continued company development, improvements and new business 1st Contracts are recruiting.

We have a particular requirement for multi-skilled operatives that are qualified and experienced Electricians.

Applicants must be driven and energetic who take pride in their work with vision for both company and personal development, this will complement the company ethos. At 1st Contracts we believe it’s people that make the difference.

They will be asked to carry out a wide range of works from reactive maintenance through to major projects and pre-planned quoted works across our vast portfolio of clients.

Must have a drivers license as will be working alongside other skilled engineers, semi-skilled staff and site managers as well as being in possession of CSCS/ECS card, other relevant industry training is also preferable.

The rate of pay is hourly and is dependent on experience and value the applicant can add to the business.

Out of hours work and overtime regularly available as well as occasional on-call work.
